This might just be our ideal Sunday morning: discussing a good book with fellow readers AND the author. Thanks to her Dutch publisher Koppernik, we have a wonderful opportunity: Daisy Johnson (so much love for Daisy) is coming to the bookshop to join a reading group devoted to her wonderful new novel Long Wave.
You can join us (that’s what the “participate” button is for). The discussion will last about an hour, with time afterwards to have your book signed. We ask just one thing. OK, two. Read the book (or get as far as you can) and bring your questions, thoughts and favourite passages. The best book clubs are all about conversation. Booksellers Eva Manhaeve and Steven Van Ammel will guide the discussion, but we’d love the questions to come from you too. An extra cup of coffee for the cleverest person in the room. Two for the funniest.
About Long Wave:
A child is found on a deserted island, with no mother and no memories. Years later, she has a baby of her own, and her reality begins to shift. Elsewhere, a ten-year-old girl sees a woman and her child disappear into a river. What connects these lives, and what will the water bring back to the surface?
In Long Wave, Daisy Johnson explores motherhood, loss and a past that refuses to be contained. The everyday becomes entangled with the uncanny; the landscape offers as much menace as shelter.
We’ll be speaking English throughout the book club — with each other and, of course, with Daisy.
There are 20 places available. We’ll also be keeping a waiting list.
